How does Lotto Max work?
Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game in Canada, with draws held every Tuesday and Friday.
Each $5 play gives you three sets of seven numbers, which range between 1 and 50.
To win, you need to match three to seven numbers in a single set with the winning numbers. Some prize categories also allow you to use a bonus number that’s selected during each draw.
Prizes depend on sales and are split among the winners in each category. Here’s a breakdown of what you could win by matching numbers, on average:
- 7/7 — jackpot (an average of $47.5 million)
- 6/7 plus bonus — an average of $194,405
- 6/7 — an average of $4,629
- 5/7 plus bonus — an average of $926
- 5/7 — an average of $105
- 4/7 plus bonus — an average of $50
- 4/7 — $20 fixed prize
- 3/7 plus bonus — $20 fixed prize
- 3/7 — free play
The Lotto Max jackpot starts at $10 million and increases with each draw if there’s no winner, reaching a cap of $80 million. When the jackpot hits $50 million, Maxmillions are added — extra $1 million prizes that can also be won.
Each of the three sets of numbers you get with your $5 ticket is entered into both the main draw and any Maxmillions draws. To win a Maxmillions prize, you need to match all seven numbers to one of the Maxmillions selections.
Tickets can be purchased until 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time on draw days.
The odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 33,294,800 for each play.
