BIXI's city-wide bike-sharing service has become a fixture of Montreal summers, allowing residents and visitors to get around town on the cheap — without the hassle of lugging their own bicycles everywhere.

And now there's a way to rent Montreal BIXI bicycles for even less money this summer. How much money? Whatever number you're thinking of go lower... OK lower... even lower. Have you gotten to zero yet? Good because on certain days at certain times, BIXI bikes are about to be totally free.

When and how? Don't worry. We're getting to that.

From June 15 to August 17, you can ride BIXIs for free on Saturdays between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

All you have to do is open the BIXI app and find the "Loto-Québec one-way ticket," which will allow you to bypass the unlocking fee. You can use the ticket to take a 30-minute ride on a regular BIXI or a 15-minute ride on an electric BIXI.

You do, however, still have to commit to the usual $100 security deposit.

After the allotted time is up, regular BIXIs cost 20 cents per minute and electric BIXIs cost 35 cents per minute, which is in line with typical rates.

The free one-way passes are thanks to a partnership with Loto-Québec, which aims to make it "easy for citizens to join in the events and festivals it sponsors." These include Francos de Montréal, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Festival Nuits d'Afrique, Festival Fierté Montréal (Montreal Pride), Osheaga, Lasso Montréal and Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque.

These prices are confirmed at the time of publishing, but they can change at any time. Taxes and fees may not be included.
