A Montreal burger joint was just crowned Canada's best after beating out hundreds of others

Its winning creation is no longer on the menu! 🥺

A burger from Patty Slap. Right: A woman eats a hamburger.

One downtown joint rose above the rest, taking home the top prize in national customer voting and officially cementing itself as a heavyweight in the country's burger scene.

Burger Week 2025 has officially wrapped, and Montreal has every reason to brag. After a week of stacked patties, wild toppings, and 374 restaurants competing from coast to coast, the crown for Canada's best burger didn't land in Toronto or Vancouver — it stayed right here in Quebec.

One downtown joint rose above the rest, taking home the top prize in national customer voting and officially cementing itself as a heavyweight in the country's burger scene. Patty Slaps, a newcomer on the Montreal restaurant scene, walked away as Canada's burger champ, and for good reason.

Here's a closer look at what may have set them apart from the competition.

Patty Slaps

Located in the heart of Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Patty Slaps has quickly made a name for itself since opening its doors in 2023. The downtown hotspot leans into bold, over-the-top comfort food, with burgers stacked high and loaded with flavour. Menu standouts include creative smash burgers, such as the Patty Jr., a towering sandwich called the Crunch-A-Delic, and a rotating lineup of inventive specials.

The vibe matches the food: casual but lively, with a focus on good times and plates that feel as indulgent as they look. Even before this year's Burger Week win, Patty Slaps had carved out a loyal following among Montrealers looking for something fresh in the city’s burger game.

The winning burger

Last year, Patty Slaps cracked the Burger Week podium with its Bacon Blaze burger, finishing in third place — and the creation has since become a permanent staple on the menu.

This time around, its winning entry, the Big Jang, helped propel the spot to the top of both the Montreal and Canada-wide rankings. The burger was built with juicy Canadian beef, cheese, smoky bacon, crispy onions, and a spicy-sweet gochujang aioli, all tucked into a sesame pretzel bun.

There's a catch, though: the Big Jang was a limited-time creation, available only from September 2 to 7 during Burger Week. So while you can't order it anymore, there's a good chance you'll end up with a pretty good alternative.

As the restaurant's motto reads, "If life's a burger, we're smashing it – because if it don't slap, it ain't Patty's."
