3 longstanding restaurants just shut down at Montreal Airport and more changes are coming

"It's time to say goodbye to 3 YUL staples."

Montreal's main airport. Right: A restaurant in YUL.

YUL announced the closures on its social media channels over the weekend, writing, "Thanks for the early coffees, comforting chicken and last-minute burgers!"

There's been no shortage of construction at Montreal's airport this summer — and now some big changes are happening on the food front, too.

As of August 4, three long-standing restaurants at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport have permanently closed: St-Hubert Express, La Brûlerie Saint-Denis, and Burger King. All three were located in the public departures area and had been serving travellers for years.

YUL announced the closures on its social media channels over the weekend, writing, "Thanks for the early coffees, comforting chicken and last-minute burgers!" while teasing that new food options will take their place soon.

For now, the airport hasn't revealed what will replace them, so food choices near the departure zone may be a bit more limited in the short term. The choice to remove the longstanding eateries may be part of YUL's broader redevelopment project that will bring a new VIP lounge, a reconfigured drop-off area, and a $10-billion plan to completely transform YUL by 2035.

Other new features coming between now and 2028 include:

  • A new REM light rail station (YUL-Aéroport-Montréal-Trudeau) set to open in 2027
  • A full overhaul of the parking system, including the demolition of the existing multilevel garage
  • Road network updates to accommodate the growing number of passengers
  • The start of southern terminal expansion work

As the airport itself put it recently: "It might get a little messy before it gets beautiful. But trust us, it's gonna look amazing when it's done!"

It's also worth noting that this marks another bump in the road for St-Hubert, which was hit with $1,500 in MAPAQ fines in July over food safety violations at its rue Sainte-Catherine E location.
