Montreal Weather Will Be Springlike This Week But Not For Long

You might be able to stand being outside for a few days.

Quebec could see a week of weather extremes — from balmy to biting — with a forecast that differs from the usual March outlook. A broad low-pressure system is set to bring a mix of unseasonably mild temperatures and rain, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures across the province. The unusual weather pattern has implications for everything from daily commutes to rapidly melting snow.

The week will start with a semblance of spring as temperatures climb, offering a break from the winter chill. However, the mild weather is expected to accelerate snowmelt, leading to "water ponding" in some areas, which may require immediate attention to prevent flooding and property damage, according to a special weather statement from Environment Canada.

Montreal weather will take a turn mid-week as a cold front sweeps through Western, Southern, and Central Quebec. The transition, taking place between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, will see rain turn to snow and the onset of strong westerly winds. A swift change in weather conditions could pose challenges for transportation and outdoor activities, with roads becoming slippery and travel becoming more difficult.

Meanwhile, MétéoMédia predicts that the early March warmth could set new records, with temperatures in some areas of southern Quebec expected to exceed 10 C. The forecast is a departure from historical norms. Montreal may have experienced one of its mildest winters, with temperatures not yet dropping below -20 C.

Monday is expected to start with cloudy weather, morning flurries, and rain clearing by the afternoon, with a high of 6 C. The night will have clear skies, and a drop to minus 6°C, although the wind chill could make it feel like -10 C. Tuesday will bring sunshine with increasing clouds by late afternoon, and a warmer high of 10 C, though the morning may feel like -6 C due to wind chill.

Rain could return Tuesday night, with a low of 7 C. Wednesday's temperatures peak at 15 C with some rain possible, turning to snow and windy conditions by night, plummeting to -14 C. Thursday will alternate between sun and clouds with a high of -8 C, clearing by night to a low of -15 C. The weather gradually warms up from Friday, sunny with a high of 2 C, leading to a weekend of cloudy skies and highs reaching between 6 and 8 C in time for Nuit Blanche.

While spring fever may be in the air, winter’s not done yet. Temps may get mild enough to confuse your wardrobe this week but don't stash away your coat and boots just yet.
