Have you ever been walking down one of your favourite Montreal streets and wondered what that same spot looked like 10, 50 or 100 years ago? Well, this Facebook group can potentially provide you with an answer to that!
I ... believe it brings us together, the sharing of stories and memories.
MTL Blog spoke with Marcel Boyer, the creator of this group, to find out how it all began and the positive impacts he believes it provides for Montrealers.
"I decided to start the page because of my passion for history, Montréal history is easy to access for images because of the age," Marcel told us.
The group involves people sharing "images from Montréals past, late 1800s to 1900s ... historical moments, facts, and amazing images of Montréal captured from the early days of photography."
Marcel said the oldest photo that's been shared in the group is one from Île Sainte-Hélène in 1856.
Besides the past, this group has also become a space for photographers, painters and other artists to share their works of Montreal's present.
The best part? Marcel stressed that "The group is a COVID-19 freezone."
"With all the stress in our lives at the moment, Montréal Past and Present has become many members 'Happy Place.'"
