Montreal Is Setting Up 11 'Oases' To Transform The Downtown Core For Summer

The Quartier des spectacles, Montréal centre-ville and Tourisme Montréal have unveiled 11 urban islands — each an "oasis" with its own name and theme — that will run from June through to the fall in the downtown core.

The new creative installations — named Les aventures du cœur de l'île — will be spread out throughout public spaces with more details to come in the next few weeks. Here's a first look at what to expect.

Oasis Place des Festivals will be turned into a green space with over 70 potted trees to go along with its famous fountain.

For the second year in a row, the Oasis Prenez Place ! yellow table will be located at Parc Hydro-Québec between Rue Clark and Rue Sainte-Catherine — and it'll be twice as big this year, at over 650 feet long.

Take a trip down south by simply checking out Oasis Plage Saint-James in front of St. James United Church, complete with real sand and art installations to transport you to an urban beach.


Oasis Escale du coin at Avenue McGill College and Rue Sainte-Catherine O. is where you can relax for a bite to eat — the perfect spot for an evening date or a solo coffee crawl. 


The Oasis Terrasse gourmande, on Rue Robert-Bourassa, offers a take-out menu from Time Out Market restaurants and public sidewalk seating for you to enjoy your snacks outdoors.
