During a city council meeting Tuesday, Mayor Valérie Plante confirmed that Montreal's "parks will be clean and the bathrooms will be open" this summer. 

The mayor responded to a question from Councillor Karine Boivin-Roy, who noted that the return of warm weather has left parks in Montreal laden with bottles and garbage due to full municipal waste bins.

Boivin-Roy also said that with Quebec's deconfinement plan on the horizon, the "rarity" of public bathrooms in local parks leads Montrealers to urinate in alleys or other public spaces.

In response, Plante said the City follows Montreal public health's rules on public spaces and will continue to do so this summer.

With Quebec's deconfinement plan happening soon, she said the opening of terrasses will relieve Montreal parks of many people.
