Conversations surrounding mental health have been becoming increasingly part of the public discourse over the last several years, but this past year has made it more critical than ever. That's why the announcement of the new Multicultural Mental Health Resource Centre (MMHRC) from McGill University could not have come at a better time.

Partnered with The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) and the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General Hospital, as well as with funding from Bell Let's Talk, the MMHRC) is dedicated to providing quality mental health resources to Canadians, with a specific focus on the multicultural landscape across the country, many of whom are new to the country.

Addressing issues of language, culture, religion and other aspects of diversity, the MMHRC will promote greater equity in mental health care.

While the pandemic continues, the MMHRC is focusing on developing online tools and resources. Once the situation becomes more stable, the Centre will establish kiosks in both the Neuro and the Jewish General.

The Centre has divided its resources into the following groups:

  • For patients/loved ones,
  • For health care professionals,
  • For organizations within the community,
  • For those in positions of policy-making, administration and planners.

"We're proud to play a role in making it easier for people from a wide range of communities to get the help they need and to provide health professionals all over Canada with resources to better help their patients," says Mary Deacon, Chair of Bell Let's Talk.

"This new website with its practical tools and videos will make a real difference for so many living with mental illness."

This $250,000 donation from Bell Let's Talk was announced back in 2017.
