Montreal Is Hosting Its First-Ever 'Japan Week' This June

Montreal food lovers missing their glory days of restaurant hopping rejoice: YATAI MTL, a festival dedicated to Japanese food and culture, is back with Japan Week, a mixture of both online and in-person events from June 7 to 13.

As the COVID-19 pandemic wears on, YATAI MTL has organized a food tour instead of holding the annual event in a public park in the Mile-End.

Opening night on Monday, June 7, at Café Osmo (51, rue Sherbrooke Ouest) at 5 p.m., will feature a Japanese mini market and "official opening of the association between Café Osmo and the Japanese counter Marusan," according to a press release.

The city’s best Japanese shops and restaurants will be delivering in-house specialties and deals.

Oishi Bar à Matcha is preparing a vegan matcha soft-serve ice cream and wagashi while Camellia Sinensis teahouse is offering 15% off Japanese teas in stored from June 7 to 13 and online until June 30.

Kinton Ramen is offering 25% off chilled tsukemen, a ramen dish where the noodles are dipped in a separate bowl of broth, at various locations around the city.

And on June 12, there's going to be a Shiba Inu gathering. Prospective attendees need to preregister online.

An online programming lineup also includes a karaoke competition, a sake workshop and a Q&A with the Consul General of Japan.
