Former Montreal resident Kamala Harris is projected to become the first female vice president of the United States and the congratulations are rolling in, including from the Montreal mayor, herself.

Mayor Valérie Plante took to Twitter to say "the wait was worth it." 

She also noted that Harris is "breaking another glass ceiling."

Harris would also be the first Black person and first person of Indian descent to be the vice president of the U.S.

Harris attended Westmount High School while her mother, Dr. Shyamala Harris, worked at the Jewish General Hospital and McGill University.

Westmount High also shared its enthusiasm on Twitter.

Harris went on to attend Howard University in Washinton D.C., become attorney general for the state of California, and a United States senator.
