Looks Like We're Turning Back The Clocks In Quebec Tonight But Legault Is 'Open' To Change

Regardless of recent questions around whether Quebec would be staying on Daylight Saving Time*, we're set to turn back the clocks on November 1 as usual — so get ready to change the time at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

In a press conference on October 8, Premier François Legault had said he was "open" to the idea of not turning back the clocks in Quebec in the future.

He was asked about the topic by a reporter the day after a bill was pushed forward in Ontario aiming to make Daylight Saving Time into standard time there year-round.

Sunday at 2 a.m. Set clocks back by one hour

Legault hasn't confirmed if the possibility of ending the yearly switch to Eastern Standard Time — while staying on Daylight Saving Time — is still on the table for the future.

However, it's safe to say this year will be status quo, meaning we'll be 'falling back' after most of us get into bed tonight.

The City of Montreal also sent out a notice reminding people to change the time during the night of October 31 to November 1.

It also suggested people use this opportunity to check the proper operation of smoke alarms and replace batteries if necessary. 

So it looks like an extra hour of 2020 is unavoidable. 

Pros? We'll feel like we're sleeping in on Sunday morning — at 2 a.m., the clock will have turned back to 1 a.m., meaning a 9 a.m. wake-up would actually feel like a 10 a.m. wake-up.

Cons? Get ready for earlier sunsets and therefore more darkness during our waking hours.

But since time amendment is now top of mind for legislators and the public, who knows what could happen by this time next year.
