The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de Lanaudière (CISSS) confirmed Thursday that another person who was at Joyce Echaquan's bedside as she died has been fired.

Echaquan was an Atikamekw woman who took to Facebook Live in her last moments to capture Joliette hospital staff members hurling racist insults and slurs her way. 

Her death has provoked national fury and led to widespread calls for leaders in Quebec to address systemic racism.

The orderly who was also at Ms. Echaquan's bedside during the filming of the video on September 28, was fired.

The orderly is the second known person to be fired for their connection to the incident. The CISSS announced on September 29 that it had dismissed a nurse.

It also stated that its "management finds the comments heard on the video that was circulated on social media unacceptable."

In the October 1 statement, the CISSS committed "to pursue and implement concrete actions in collaboration with the Atikamekw community" to address racism in its network.

Two investigations into Echaquan's death are ongoing.

Quebec Premier François Legault said he was "shocked" by the racism she experienced. But despite calls for him to recognize systemic racism in Quebec, the premier has not publicly done so.
