Quebec Has Reported Over 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases For The First Time In Months

But no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

For the first time since May, officials have reported over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in Quebec.

This drastic increase is the latest signal of a slowly worsening second wave of infections in the province.  

While no deaths occurred in the 24 hours prior to the report on October 2, the number of hospitalizations increased by 27 for a total of 302.

1,052 New COVID-19 Cases Reported On October 2

Officials did, however, add seven deaths that occurred before October 1 to its tally, for a total of 5,857.

The province is trying to speed up its testing and analysis as cases increase

Quebecers should only get tested if they've been advised to, if they come in contact with infected individuals or are manifesting symptoms, however, Premier François Legault said. 

With Montreal and other regions in the "red zone," the government has taken steps to close businesses and limit travel

The pandemic is not only endangering the physical health of Quebecers but their mental health, as well.

A study revealed that one in five Quebecers has developed "pandemic-induced" anxiety and depression. 

As of October 2, there has been a cumulative total of 76,273 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Quebec.
