If you're dreaming of a Christmas vacation, you'll want to pack your bags and head to this glittering city that's a road trip away from Montreal.

The destination was named among the best 18 Christmas vacay spots in the world and with its historic streets, twinkling shops and endless festive activities, it's easy to see why.

Québec City ranked at number two on the list of the best Christmas vacation spots in the world by U.S. News. According to the article, the destination is the "next best thing" to a European holiday and is full of Christmas magic.

"Come December, the quaint stone buildings and narrow, winding streets of Old Québec, outfitted with decorations and lights, inspire glee," U.S. News says.

"Race down a thrilling toboggan run at lightning speed, try seasonal German delicacies like gingerbread and mulled wine at the German Christmas Market or go ice skating at Place D'Youville."

According to Québec Cité, "Petit-Champlain and Place-Royale are among the best places to immerse yourself in the holiday atmosphere."

You can also sail down the toboggan run at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage through the dazzling streets.

Québec City was the only Canadian city to make the list of the best Christmas vacations. Prague topped the list, and the Maldives ranked third.

The destinations were chosen based on factors like culture, seasonality and entertainment options, as well as reader votes.

If you're looking for European charm and Christmas magic without going too far, you may want to head to Québec City this holiday season.
