With one of the warmest winters on record almost behind us, cherry blossom season in Montreal could be here earlier than usual this year — and you don't have to go far to visit some of the best spots in Canada to see them bloom.

According to flight aggregator and travel agency Skyscanner, Montreal is among the top five most beautiful cities in Canada to see the cherry blossoms bloom.

Skyscanner's list, sent to MTL Blog by email, specifically names two places in Montreal where people can "really immerse themselves in the experience and the beauty of the cherry blossoms."

The two Montreal spots it ranked among the best in Canada to see the cherry blossoms are:

  • Parc Jean-Drapeau,
  • and the Montreal Botanical Garden.
That said, most Montrealers know that you can also spot beautiful cherry blossoms in Westmount Park, Chinatown (the park beside Palais des congrès), Parc Ahuntsic, and Parc-nature de l’Île-de-la-Visitation.

Typically, Montreal's cherry blossoms bloom in early to late May. However, when climates are warmer as they have been this season, cherry blossoms can bloom even earlier.

Joshua Jarry, horticultural information officer for the Montreal Botanical Garden, told us via email that it's still too early to predict when the cherry blossoms will bloom. He said if the high temperatures continue, we may see some early blooming but it's hard to say, as spring temperatures are not yet known.

The Botanical Garden recommends keeping an eye on its "Blooms of the week" calendar.

The other cities on Skyscanner's list for optimum cherry blossom viewing are: Toronto (High Park), Vancouver (Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, VanDusen Botanical Garden), Victoria (Beacon Hill Park, University of Victoria campus), and Niagara-on-the-Lake (Niagara Parkway).
