If you were promised champagne on a Sunwing flight between 2014 and 2017, you could be entitled to a Sunwing discount. A Quebec court has approved a settlement in a class action lawsuit that alleged the airline advertised champagne to Quebec customers but only served sparkling wine.

The problem, plaintiffs argued, is that the designation "champagne" is protected, meaning it can only be applied to select products that meet specific standards of production. Sparkling wine, they said, is a lesser product. The plaintiffs therefore charged that Sunwing violated the Quebec Consumer Protection Act.

Departure times for Sunwing flights to and from Montreal have been pushed back by hours due to what the airline is calling a "network-wide system issue." The problem, the company says, is on its system provider's side and is affecting check-in and boarding procedures.

On Monday morning, Sunwing took to Twitter to warn passengers travelling in the next 12 to 24 hours of resulting delays. As of the time of writing, four Sunwing flights departing Montreal have been delayed:

As of March 28, the Government of Canada has issued a total of 24 fines to passengers aboard the December 30 Quebec Sunwing flight to Cancun. The chartered flight made international headlines after videos from the cabin showed passengers, including local influencers and celebrities, partying maskless in their seats and the aisle.

But as Transport Canada continues its crackdown, James William Awad, the flamboyant and enigmatic flight organizer, says passengers have no plans to pay penalties. Instead, they aim to challenge them.
