It's official: the Montreal Canadiens are in the playoffs and that means it's time to throw on your retro jersey, grab your roomies and celebrate like you're at a Habs game IRL.
May 20 marks the Game 1 opening-round matchup in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, which is sure to be one for the books. For this game and every game during the 2021 playoffs season, the Montreal Canadiens will be hosting a whole series of events and initiatives so you can cheer on the Habs in style.
Presented by the team's four-pillar partners — RONA, Scotiabank, Lafleur and Ford — these experiences are the perfect way for any Habs fans to celebrate the playoffs.
Exclusively ahead of Game 1 on May 20, Habs fans can see the "GO HABS GO" banner that'll be flying over downtown Montreal, the Old Port and along the Lachine Canal. It'll be soaring through the sky for two hours starting at noon, and you'll want to have your phone at the ready because your pic could score you a big prize.
If you share and tag a photo of the banner on Twitter using the hashtag #AIRCH, you'll have the chance to win one of three prize packs including an official team jersey and a $100 promo code for Tricolore Sports, the Montreal Canadiens' official store.
Catch The Bilingual Watch-Along On Twitch
Starting at 7:30 p.m. for the May 20 game only, you can join Marc Dumont and Kevin Raphael on the team's Twitch channel. Watch along throughout the entirety of the game and get ready for a series of surprise guests, too.
If you're missing the vibe of the stadium, this is a a great way to (virtually) interact with fellow fans. So throw on your jersey, grab your fave Canadian refreshment and get ready for Game 1.
From 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST every game (whether home or away), diehard Habs fans can get inked with an authentic Canadiens-themed tattoo for free at Adrenaline, located in downtown Montreal at 1541, rue Sherbrooke O.
Whether it's your first tattoo or one of many, nothing says superfan like ink. Spaces will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, so don't miss your spot.
Tune in to the Habs Twitch channel half an hour before each game (so 7:00 p.m. for Game 1, 6:30 p.m. for Game 2, etc) to get primed and pumped for every game to come with a DJ set broadcast live from the Bell Centre.
With Ronin opening Game 1 and the likes of Fafa Khan, Domeno and Tizi on rotation in the games to come, you don't want to miss it!
Nerd Out With A Pre-Game Q&A Hosted By Marc Dumont
From Game 2 onwards, Habs fans can join in on a live pre-game Q&A session hosted by Marc Dumont. The Q&A will be held on the team's Twitter from 6:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. EST.
For some extra fun, fans will have the opportunity to ask a question and get a chance to win an exclusive $400 gift package.
If you're looking for even more ways to get in the playoff spirit this year, you can pick up your free Canadiens tricolour face paint kit at participating RONA stores throughout the Greater Montreal area, while supplies last.
You can also show the team a little love with a GO HABS GO lawn sign available at Tricolore Sports. Plus, in honour of the 2021 Playoffs, they'll donate 21% of all proceeds to the Canadiens Children's Foundation.
If you don't have a lawn, don't sweat it, because you can get your virtual GO HABS GO sign as a VR filter on the Habs' official Instagram account.
Whether you're going IRL or virtial, each day of the playoffs, one lucky fan who posts a shot of thier lawn sign on Twitter or Instagram story using the hashtag #CHezNous will be entered to win an official 2021 Canadiens playoff rally towel and a team cap.
If you haven't had the chance to look up the full Montreal Canadiens playoffs schedule, here it is:

If you’re not fluent, French films might seem inaccessible and take work to understand, but Quebec cinema is full of incredibly quirky, unique and action-packed storytelling that’s not to be missed — and subtitles are helpful in a jam.
Being your go-to place for all things entertaining, here is MTL Blog's list of just a few of the classic Quebec films you should probably go watch.
Why You Need To Watch It: I’ve cried twice in my life during a cinematic event. Once the lady is eaten in Jaws. And then when I saw La Guerre des tuques (1984). This cult classic taught a generation of school kids that war is no good.
Why You Need To Watch It: This bilingual buddy-cop film explores the relationship between Quebec and Ontario and concludes that while we have our differences, we both like hockey and dislike Gary Bettman. You can watch it on Netflix.
Why You Need To Watch It:Polytechnique (2009) tells the story of the massacre that took place at École Polytechnique in December 1989, when 14 women were murdered. Shot in black and white, it is a harsh, moving and powerful film.
Why You Need To Watch It: Boorish man Elvis Gratton dreams of becoming a famous Elvis impersonator in this series of comedy classics full of R-rated laughs that modern viewers might find shocking — but it didn’t seem quite so offensive at the time.
Why You Need To Watch It: Denys Arcand is arguably Quebec's most important filmmaker, so if you've never heard of him shame on you.
A good place to redeem yourself is by watching Le déclin de l'empire américain (1986), a classic comedy about four history professors who spend a weekend outside the city.

Sometimes stereotypes about Canadians make us laugh and roll our eyes. Other times, Habs fans like Nik Tremblay, 19, and Justin Alves, 18, make a snow cave to watch their favourite hockey team, and we couldn't be prouder to be Canadian.
The two Pointe-Claire natives and die-hard Montreal Canadiens fans had been thinking about building the cave since Christmas, but decided it was finally time to get to work. Kinda like the Habs, themselves.
"It took us 3 days to make as we had to dump all the snow in a pile and let it freeze overnight," Alves told MTL Blog. "Then we did the carving of the inside the day after... we put all of Montreal Canadiens memorabilia inside with the lights surrounding it."
"We also wanted a place to watch the games that could be more COVID-friendly, so it worked out perfectly!" Tremblay added.
Tremblay's 17-year-old sister Rachel decided to show her followers on TikTok just how passionate the boys really are about their team.
As for how the duo feels about the amazing start the Habs have had this season, "The Habs are off to an unforgettable start," Tremblay said.
"It’s also fun to have the North division because we get to see all the rivalries start to form which makes for really competitive and fun to watch hockey."
Alves added, "I think the habs are playing phenomenally so far... It's a great year to be a Habs fan!"
If this doesn't say "Go Habs Go," I don't know what will.
While we can't fully take advantage of it at the moment, Montrealers know we live in one of world's best culinary cities — and, now, everyone who watches the Food Network knows it too because three Montreal restaurants were featured on Big Food Bucket List this season, which aired between September 2020 and January 2021.
It's always fun to watch local content on TV, but even more fun knowing that when you get hungry, which will inevitably happen, all you have to do — barring sad COVID-19 closures — is pick-up your phone and order your own taste of the dish you see on screen.
Featured Foods: Poutine Galvaude & Burger Tousignant
Address: 6956, rue Drolet
Why You Need To Try It: "Michele Forgione's casse-croûte food is legendary. That's cause he's devoting himself to cooking it all from scratch — from the buns to the meat and everything in between." - Host John Catucci
It's October — the month of Thanksgiving and fall fun and Halloween — but it definitely doesn't feel like it with regions of Quebec back in lockdown. Times are tough and there's not much to do, but that means it's the perfect month for a chill binge-watching sesh... with a spooky season touch, of course.
We've rounded up a list of some of the oldest, weirdest, creepiest and most obscure movies filmed in Montreal that you can watch to pass the time while Montreal's in 'red alert.'
Be sure to keep an eye out for Montreal landmarks and bask in that MTL pride!
If you can't explore your city IRL, at least you can see it on screen.
What It's About: In a convent near Montreal, a nun named Agnes is found in her room with a dead baby and doesn't remember how it got there. She allegedly gave birth to the baby and immediately killed it, provoking a criminal investigation into her wrongdoings.
Bonus: Queen Jane Fonda plays Agnes' psychiatrist.
Why You Need To Watch: You'll spot the McGill University music building downtown on Rue Sherbrooke, along with other landmark Montreal streets like Saint-Denis and Notre-Dâme.
Visiting Hours (1982)
What It's About: In this West Island slasher film, a well-known feminist activist goes on a talk show, does her thing, then gets targeted by a creepy incel, who turns out to be totally psycho. You can probably figure out the rest.
Why You Need To Watch: The hospital you'll see in the movie is located in Saint-Anne-De-Bellevue, and you'll catch a glimpse of the Plateau in the '80s.
Rabid (1977)
What It's About: This old Montreal-made zombie film by David Cronenberg is the perfect spooky season viewing. Its story is actually based in Montreal, so it won't be hard to spot iconic landmarks.
Why You Need To Watch: Among other typical Montreal scenescapes, you'll be able to spot the old metro cars, Cavendish Mall, Rue Saint-Mathieu downtown and Nun's Island.
The Score (2001)
What It's About: This crime thriller, with Ed Norton, Robert DeNiro and Marlon Brando, is one of Montreal's most famous movies. A burglar sets out to do one more multimillion-dollar score before his time runs out. There's extortion, drama and even lasers make an appearance.
Bonus: Queen Angela Bassett!
Why You Need To Watch: The film is chockful of scenes in the Old Port and Westmount, and you'll be able to spot plenty of Plateau landmarks. Keep your eyes peeled!
Eye of the Beholder (1999)
What It's About: In this mystery thriller, starring Ashley Judd and Ewan McGregor, a secret agent sets out to stalk the son of his wealthy boss and finds him dead at the hands of a female serial killer.
Why You Need To Watch: While this film was made in several countries, you'll be able to spot Old Port landmarks like Rue Saint-Pierre, near the Phi Centre, and Rue Saint-Jacques.
Abandon (2002)
What It's About: This star-studded psychodrama includes performances by Zooey Deschanel, Gabrielle Union and Katie Holmes. Holmes plays a college student (clearly at McGill) who's struggling with her thesis and an investigation into her missing boyfriend, who's been gone for two years. She suddenly spots him in a library and drama ensues.
Why You Need To Watch: The film is almost entirely based at McGill University, so you'll be able to recognize McConnell Hall almost instantly. You'll also spot Montreal's Chinatown and locations on Avenue des Pins.
Zoe (2018)
What It's About: If you're in the mood for sci-fi this spooky season (as if a global pandemic isn't spooky enough), you'll want to get into Zoe, a Black Mirror-esque film about relationships with Ewan McGregor, Léa Seydoux and — you're not going to believe it — Christina Aguilera! It's not an old film, but it is definitely not well-known.
Why You Need To Watch: There are so many Montreal locations in this film, including McGill, Griffintown, the Lachine Canal and the Ville-Marie tunnel on the 720 highway.
We've gotta make the most with what we've got, so we put together a list of ideas about how to spend your upcoming weekend while following the government's new protocols.
Why You Need To Try: Montreal has tons of home chefs who love to share their recipes on Instagram, so follow along with them and make yourself a nice dinner!
Why You Need To Try: The city is filled with awesome brunch spots that will deliver a decadent breakfast right to your door, so you don't need to worry about cooking.

We always think that our guys are super easy to buy for until we start shopping. Each year I wait 'til the last week before Christmas before getting my boyfriend's gift - I tell myself the longer I wait, the more ideas I'll have and then it'll just be a matter of choosing the perfect one! And then I end up in a self-doubting frenzy, where I can't even remember his size or his favorite flavour anymore.
But THIS year, I did some sneaky research and compiled a list of gifts that are a guaranteed to make your man happy.
The key: something that's both stylish AND useful on a daily basis. Something that won't end up on a shelf or in a box! And most importantly, something that shows him how much you care about his day-to-day happiness, from the moment he wakes up to the moment he settles back into bed.
Here are 8 perfect gifts for all the men on your shopping list this year:
Instead of a gift card from his favorite coffee shop, why not save him the hassle of standing in line and get him an espresso machine? It's a quick and easy way to make yourself a classy cup of coffee in the morning, and actually fun to use! Cappuccinos, lattes and espressos - he'll be an expert in no time!
A man can never have too many bow ties. They come in so many rad patterns and always look super stylish! They're even said to make people seem friendlier and more approachable, so it's a great way to show your boyfriend that you support him in his work endeavors.
Plus, bow ties look great for just about any occasion, so he's sure to wear his often.
Montreal men are known for their good looks for a reason: they know a thing or two about style, and it all starts with hair (facial hair included!) Want to get him a cool gift card? Check out some of the city's hottest barber shops.
This is sure to WOW any man on your shopping list. Watches are a classic gift idea for a reason, but this is far from being your regular time-teller.
Samsung's Gear S3 is water and dust resistant (it can withstand up to 1.5 meters under water for 30 minutes!*), has 4 GB of internal memory so he can listen to his favourite tunes, AND it has a built-in speaker so he can easily take calls when he's on the go!
Even better, the Gear S3 doesn't need to be charged every day and can run for up to 4 days**. Pair it with Samsung's Galaxy S7, which is ALSO water resistant (among many other amazing features). It's the most stylish smartphone a guy could own, and you are sure to win the girlfriend of the year award!
**This device has been tested and received an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of IP68, which tests for dust intrusion and for water submersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes; rinse residue/dry after wet. Not shockproof. Not suitable for swimming or diving.
**** Battery life may vary depending on usage and settings. Based on laboratory testing.
Men love a challenge, especially when it comes to sports. Whether your man hasn't been working out much lately or whether he's stuck in a fitness rut, you can help motivate him back into shape by getting him a cool gym membership. Montreal is loaded with fun options so you can get him a gift certificate to a CrossFit gym or even rock-climbing! Just make sure you respect his preferences while still kicking him in the butt.
What better way to spend some quality time with your man, away from the stress of the routine, then by spending time together at the spa? While he probably wouldn't pick this gift himself, he'll be happy to get the royal treatment and to relax with you by his side in a new setting. This gift is especially recommended if your guy has been working extra hard and could use time away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
At the end of a long day, a quality glass of scotch is a great way to take the edge off. Whether he's a scotch guy or not, a great bottle of spirits can help to get him through a long winter, and it's also an occasion for you two to spend some quality time together after the day is done and over with.
He's a huge Game Of Thrones fan and wasn't able to watch the last season? He secretly loves Girls as much as you do and you've always wanted to watch all the seasons together?
Offer him an HBO subscription so he can watch a ton of quality series and films without having to worry about a notice from the internet provider!! It goes without saying that you'll be able to enjoy this one as well. ;)
It's your time to shine as a great gift-giver. Pair the Galaxy S7 with the revolutionary Gear S3 this holiday season, a perfect occasion to please not just once, but twice!
If you don't know what to give your SO this Christmas, these Samsung devices may just be the perfect gift!
If you're out and about this Sunday evening, you're going to want to make sure you stop and look up at the sky. For the first time in 33 years, a total lunar eclipse will be coinciding with a supermoon, and luckily for us, it will be visible right here in Montreal. Not only will you be able to see the moon turn a really cool red-y colour, but it'll be extra big and bright while it's happening.
The penumbral eclipse will start at 8:11pm, with the total eclipse starting at 10:11, peaking at 10:47, and ending at 11:23. This total eclipse-supermoon combination won't be happening again until 2033, so you're going to want to go see it while you have a chance.
If you're looking for a spot to watch it, here are some great star-gazing locations that I'm sure will get you some pretty sweet views. Now all you have to do it grab some friends, a blanket, and maybe a couple of beers and you're in for a pretty cool night.
Grab your blankets and get ready to be amazed because the Perseid meteor shower will be making one hell of an appearance this August in Montreal. The Perseid shower happens annually and is known for being one of the brightest showers, featuring tons of super fast meteors that often leave those picturesque trails in the sky. If you're only going to make one star-gazing expedition this year, make sure it's this one.
While this shower does happen annually, this year in particular is going to be pretty special because the meteors haven't been this visible in nearly 5 years. Although the shower will be happening for a few more weeks, you'll get the best views on the 12th and 13th of August, before the new moon, when the night skies will be darker. You can expect to see up to 100 shooting stars in an hour!
And don't worry about busting out that dusty old telescope from the basement, or buying yourself a pair of binoculars, because these meteors will be perfectly visible to the naked eye.
You can check out the best places to go star-gazing near Montreal here, and if you're interested, there's going to be a talk and meteor viewing organized by The Night Sky Guy at the Morgan Arboretum tonight at 8pm.
