This Montreal-Based Drama On Netflix Canada Tells The True Story Of The Mafia In Quebec

On the surface, Montreal streets are characterized by cheery carollers, street posts, colourful murales, and lively seasonal festivals — in other words, it's far from the  gritty and ramshackled cityscape you normally associate with rampant corruption and organized crime.

In reality, you can't step foot in the city of Montreal without hearing the words "corruption" or "mafia." Everybody who lives here knows that conversations about construction, roads, real estate, contracting, even snow removal go hand in hand with conversations about corruption and organized crime.

"Bad Blood" season 1 was originally released on Canadian television network CITY-TV in 2017 and was later picked up for distribution by Netflix in 2018.

This six-part original series is based on a best-selling book called Business or Blood: Mafia Boss Vito Rizzuto's Last War by Antonio Nicaso and Peter Edwards.

Since its original release in 2017, the show has been recognized by critics as being a stand-out series. Critics at The Globe & Mail called it "a startlingly vivid view of a Mafia dynasty in our own midst."

Starring Anthony LaPaglia as one of Canada's most notorious gangsters and Montreal mobster Vito Rizzuto. This male-centric mob drama is based off of real events in Montreal's history. So it's a great way to get informed and be entertained at the same time. In other words, a win/win in my books.
