This Quebec Train Takes You On A Riverside Ride Through A Cliff & Past Stunning Fall Views

The ultimate fall trip.
Senior Editor

Almost overnight, a cool mass of air swept away the summer heat, announcing the quick approach of fall. And in just a few more weeks, the crisp fall breeze will become the icy breath of winter. Fall in Quebec ends almost as quickly as it begins, so it's important to seek out those fleeting foliage views before, suddenly, it's too late. The Train de Charlevoix might be one of the best ways to do that.

The train travels between La Malbaie and Baie-Saint-Paul from July to mid-October, transporting passengers along the shore of the Saint Lawrence past sweeping seascapes and swooping valleys that, in the autumn months, erupt in fiery yellows, oranges, and reds.

With no parallel roads or highways, according to Tourisme Charlevoix, the route offers one-of-a-kind views.

Photos posted online show that the train even passes through a tunnel running beneath riverside cliffs.

From Thursday to Sunday until October 18, 2020, the schedule allows passengers to plan day trips to each town.

There are two round-trip options east to La Malbaie, each allowing for a several-hour stay in the town.

Travellers can choose to take the train at either 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. for return trips to Baie-Saint-Paul departing at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

There's just one round-trip option to Baie-Saint-Paul leaving La Malbaie at 11:30 a.m. and departing for the return trip at 5:30 p.m.

Social media photos offer a glimpse at what you can expect to see.

Tickets are $49 for people aged 18 and older and $29 for children between the ages of three and 17. Reservations must be made by phone.
