Sometimes you simply need to nap. Maybe your incredibly hungover. Maybe you're under caffeinated. Maybe you've just grown accustom to a midday siesta. Doesn't really matter why, because when you want a nap, you just gotta have it.

To help you stay rested, here are some impromptu Montreal nap spots if you're too far away from your own bed.

1. World Trade Center Montreal Indoor Courtyard

  • By the sides of the water fountain are some conveniently placed couches and resting areas for you to enjoy. Be lulled by the whirling sounds of water into a pleasant afternoon slumber.

2. McGill SSMU Building

  • Every McGill student knows about the magical room full of comfy couches in the downtown student building. Anyone can pass for a student so feel free to take a quick midday on-campus nap.

3. Bibliotheque du Boise

  • Big bean bags make this Saint Laurent study spot perfect for impromptu naps. Sure, they're in the young adults section, but that shouldn't stop you from dipping down into a nap spiral.

4. The STM Orange Line

  • Start from Montmorency and ride along the STM's longest line all the way to Côte-Vertu for a legit slumber. Hop on halfway through downtown for a quicker snooze.

5. University Libraries

  • May be a little more difficult to get in if you're not a student, but security is generally pretty light. Taking a snooze in library isn't exactly glamorous, but most have comfy seating area to catch some Z's.

6. Any Breather Apartment

  • Breather is an app that allows you to rent out apartments all around the city for short periods of time. Great for naps, and, well, less wholesome activities, if you catch my drift.

7. Library and National Archives of Quebec

  • One of the largest public libraries always has some people snoozing, so why not join? Not all of them are homeless people, so don't feel awkward about it.

8. The Park

  • Summer time makes the lush grass of the city's many parks ideal for some nap-age. La Fontaine, Mount Royal, and Prince Arthur parks are great options.

9. Cafes

  • Any Starbucks, or the 24hr Second Cup on Parc for late night snoozes before the metro opens, are always an option, as long as you buy something.

10. Le Chablis St. Jacques

  • This vaguely classy motel lets you rent rooms in hour-chunks (38$ for 4 hours during weekdays, 48$ for 3 hours during weekends) which is obviously just for napping.

Chapters/Indigo

  • Generally pretty quiet, usually have a few comfy chairs to accommodate a snooze, and big enough that you can just get lost in the crowd of faces. A pro tip is to strategically balance your book (the bigger the better) to cover your face in such a way that it looks like you're intensely reading, while in reality you're off in dream land.
