The Montreal Canadiens had plenty to celebrate on Monday night as they secured their fifth consecutive win with a victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

While the team's playoff hopes are gaining momentum, one player had even more reason to be in high spirits.

Veteran forward Brendan Gallagher shared some heartwarming news during the postgame scrum, revealing that he and his longtime partner, Emma Fortin, welcomed their first child last week.

"I'm a dad now," Gallagher said with a smile. "It's been a week, so it's still new. Obviously, a little less sleep than I'm used to, but it's been awesome."

The 32-year-old winger also admitted that parenthood has been an adjustment, but he and Fortin are embracing every moment.

"We're learning as we go, but so far, we love every second of it," he added.

Gallagher, the longest-serving member on the Canadiens' current roster, and Fortin, a Quebec native, tied the knot in a beautiful Montreal ceremony last July.

Their wedding was a star-studded affair, with several of the Alberta native's teammates in attendance, including captain Nick Suzuki and his fiancée Caitlin Fitzgerald, Carey and Angela Price, as well as Cole Caufield, Sam Montembeault, Jake Evans, and Christian Dvorak, among others.

In early December, the couple shared the exciting news that they were expecting their first child.

Gallagher, who was drafted by the Canadiens back in 2010, has spent his entire NHL career in Montreal. Over the years, he has become a fan favourite, known for his relentless work ethic, leadership, and ability to spark energy on the ice. With over 800 career games and 450 points under his belt, he remains a cornerstone of the franchise.

Netting 25 points in 61 games this year, he is on pace to log his most productive season since 2019-2020.

Throw his newly acquired dad strength into the equation, and he could help Montreal get into the postseason.
