A Montreal bar has come up with a creative and delicious solution to extended Quebec red-zone closures. Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is now offering boozy donuts inspired by its own cocktail menu — and the flavours are incredibly accurate! Evan Cowie of Le Mal Nécessaire told us about the new alcohol-infused, cocktail-flavoured donuts. He calls them "Boozy Beignes." Editor's Choice: This Place In Montreal Makes Shawarma Sushi So You Don't Need To Choose Between The Two Cowie said he formed the idea for Boozy Beignes during the early days of quarantine — instead of banana bread or sourdough, he opted to learn how to make donuts. Evan Cowie Le mal nécessaire donut is filled with bourbon and pineapple jelly, rolled in cinnamon and drizzled with Fernet Branca frosting. Evan Cowie "When it came to frosting, my mind immediately went to alcohol — so yes, all the donuts contain alcohol [...] As you know, bars aren't allowed to sell alcohol to go... unless it's on a donut!" Cowie said. Evan Cowie Jalapiñacho is an ancho chili donut glazed with pineapple, dipped in chocolate mezcal frosting and topped with candied jalapeño, while the Siesta contains a tequila and grapefruit glaze, is dipped in Campari frosting and is topped with candied grapefruit. Evan Cowie All six Boozy Beignes are being sold at Fleurs & Cadeaux, which is next to the Chinatown bar.
