A 21-year-old Quebec driver was reportedly caught going 167 km/h in an 80 zone on Saturday night in L'Île d'Orléans.

According to media representative Audrey-Anne Bilodeau from La Sûreté du Québec, two police officers caught the driver speeding using a radar around 12:15 a.m.

Bilodeau claims that although the driver's license did not permit him to have any alcohol in his system while operating a vehicle, he failed the breathalyzer test and was found to have over the legal limit of 0.08.

$1,609 The fine the driver will have to pay

According to the representative, he received a $1,609 ticket and 18 demerit points for driving over the speed limit.

Other fines that were given were reportedly for driving under the influence, driving with any alcohol in his system without a licence that permits it and failing to present all necessary paperwork when stopped by the police.

The driver is supposed to appear in court on January 28, 2021, in Quebec City.

Bilodeau says that the most likely charges will be driving under the influence and driving under the influence over the legal limit. She explained that these are two separate charges.

We're told that the judge will also decide if he loses his license and for how long.
