Trudeau Shared A Powerful Message Honouring 14 Women Who Were Murdered On This Day In 1989

December 6 has been deemed Canada's National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women after the "Montreal Massacre" that happened in 1989.

On this day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a powerful message with his social media followers honouring the 14 victims of the mass shooting that occurred at École Polytechnique on this day 31 years ago.

Trudeau started off his post by saying, "These women had promising lives ahead of them, but they were cut short - because they were women."

"The fact that this gender-based violence ever existed in our country is tragic."

He ended his short yet touching message by saying "Sadly, it still exists. We must keep working to end it for good."

Included with this message was a photo that included the names of the women who were murdered at École Polytechnique on this same day three decades ago.

In another statement about the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence, the Prime Minister said "Gender-based violence has no place in our communities or our country, and the Government of Canada is continuing to implement a national action plan to address it."

On the evening of Sunday, December 6, 14 beams of light will beam over Mount Royal to remember the women who lost their lives during the 1989 "Montreal Massacre."
