Here's How Much A Ticket Was For Not Wearing A Mask At Yesterday's Protest In Montreal

According to Véronique Comtois, Media Relations Officer for the SPVM, a total of 280 tickets were issued at the Montreal protest on Sunday for "rights and liberties." 

The officer told MTL Blog that tickets for failing to wear any type of facial covering during the demonstration resulted in a $1,000 fine. And after taxes and fees, the fine goes all the way up to $1,546.

Six reports are also allegedly being sent to the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales for further investigation.

Comtois said that the police were present at Sunday's protest to support Santé Montréal guidelines. 

"It was all for Public Health [measures], concerning the fact that they were not wearing, not just a mask, but any type of facial covering."

The exact number of attendees could not be disclosed.

However, the SPVM was able to share that the protest started at around 12:30 p.m. and ended just before 5 p.m.

Beginning at Sherbrooke and McGill College, the gathering headed northeast toward Parc La Fontaine, where it remained static for the rest of the demonstration.
