As part of a tightening of restrictions amid the province's third wave of COVID-19, Quebec is making masks or face coverings mandatory for outdoor group sports and recreational activities.

In orange and red zones, as of Thursday, April 8, a face-covering will be required when participants don't live together, according to an April 6 press release from the minister of health.

The exception, the government says, is for activities in which participants are seated two metres away from each other.

Outdoor group activities are limited to 12 people in orange zones. In red zones, the limit is eight people.

Also in red zones, public interior sports and recreation venues, like gyms, will be closed. Pools, skating rinks, tennis and badminton courts will remain open.
