The $1.4 billion Quebecers spend on their cars every year reflects the state of the province's roads, but also the large population of motorists.

Each Quebec driver pays an average of $258 per year on car operating costs, which is double the national average. Albertans pay the least — an average of $64 per year.

According to the report, more than 50% of highway kilometres in Quebec and Nova Scotia are deteriorated or show signs of deterioration.
