Valérie Plante REALLY Wants The Montreal Grand Prix To Happen This Summer

The race is tentatively set for June 13.

Mayor Valérie Plante, via Project Montreal's Twitter account, pledged to find "solutions" with the provincial government to bring Formula 1 back to Montreal this summer.

"If there is one event that traditionally marks the launch of the summer festivities, it is Formula 1. It is therefore all the more important this year to send the signal that we want the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montreal," said the mayor.

"There are still many question marks," she admitted, but she said that the city gave the green light to the Formula 1 promotion team to plan for the race.

The city will appeal to the provincial government to allow the race to happen. "We need a signal of confidence in the event sector, which has suffered so much for 1 year," said Plante.

Formula 1 still has the event scheduled for June 11-13 on its website, but nothing is set in stone until the race gets government approval.
