Quebec Just Cut The Recommended Time Between Pfizer & Moderna Vaccine Doses In Half

Quebec's Second Vaccine Dose Timeframe Was Just Moved Up

Quebec's Health Ministry has moved up the timeframe for second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. 

In a press release, the ministry announced "that the recommended interval between the two doses for vaccines administered in Quebec is 8 weeks or more" — moved up from the previous 16 weeks for Pfizer and Moderna.

Why move up second doses?

The ministry said it reduced the interval to ensure that people "obtain a higher immune response more quickly." The second dose will be administered according to the established age groups.

The recommended interval is four weeks for immunocompromised people.

Health Minister Christian Dubé previously stated that the government would be releasing a new calendar for second doses.

How is Quebec's vaccination campaign going so far?

As of the time of writing, 5,808,464 vaccine doses have been administered in Quebec.

In the last seven days, Quebec saw a daily average of 86,234 doses administered.

According to Dubé, 75% of Quebecers have had a first dose — three weeks ahead of the original schedule.

In Montreal, alone, 1,430,065 doses have gone out so far.
