The upcoming alert was first reported by La Presse.

Police forces will also flash patrol car lights to warn of the coming curfew on Saturday night, according to its report.

The curfew will take effect as of January 9 and lasts from 8 p.m to 5 a.m the next day.

No one will be allowed to venture outside their home unless their activity falls under a valid curfew exception

Anyone violating the curfew could face fines of between $1,000 and $6,000.

According to Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault, "it will be the responsibility" of people out during curfew "to show to a police officer [...] that they have a good reason for being outside."

The curfew order is set to last until February 8
