Mayor Plante Wants The Federal Government To 'Take A Stand' Against Companies Like Pornhub

On December 4, The New York Times published an article titled "The Children of Pornhub," revealing the alleged dark realities behind this Montreal-based online porn site, which mayor Valérie Plante was questioned about today.

"Its site is infested with rape videos. It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content," the author wrote.

During Mayor Plante's press conference three days after the article was released, a journalist asked her feeling towards Pornhub, its parent company Mindgeek, and the fact that Montreal houses such a business.

[Pornhub] isn't the kind of business we wish to have on our territory.

"We must understand that it's not limited to the City Of Montreal [...] to say [to businesses] 'you can come' or 'you can't set up here.'"

Plante says such decisions need to be taken into the hands of higher up forms of government, and "invites the deciders from other levels, including the federal, to take a stand on the issue."

The mayor was asked if she thinks this business with its headquarters in Montreal should be forced to leave the city. 

She responded, "I can tell you it has to go, but more so than that, there need to be rules and laws that make sure Pornhub isn't just replaced by someone else after."

"[That] would make it a little bit like makeup."
