In a close Game 6 against the Las Vegas Golden Knights on June 24, the Montreal Canadiens secured their spot in the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 28 years, winning a 3-2 overtime game to win the series.

In what could only be described as a fated win — with the game happening on home ice on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, during 2021's last strawberry moon — thousands of Montrealers who crowded L'Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal in the celebration were scattered by Montreal police

Montreal police closed the area around the Bell Centre during the game due to overcrowding — and after the match, its riot squad used tear gas to disperse thousands of Montrealers.

Habs fans climbed some of the city's light fixtures and poles as they tossed around Montreal's infamous orange cones and proudly waved Quebec flags during the game.

Some Montrealers lit up fireworks between buildings on the small avenues around the Bell Centre as the Habs scored each of their three goals.

Post-win, Montrealers swarmed a police car in front of the arena, flipping it over as they broke the windshield and threw orange construction cones through its windows.

Police did not say if anyone was hurt during last night's revelry but confirmed that two police officers sustained minor injuries.

The Habs will know who they'll be competing against after tonight's semi-final Game 7 between the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Go Habs go!
