From Ryan Reynolds to Russell Crowe, Montreal has seen its fair share of celebrity sightings this summer. But the latest duo turning heads might be the most unexpected yet.

According to a new TMZ report, pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau were spotted dining together at a restaurant in the Plateau on the evening of Monday, July 28. The American tabloid published a photo of the pair seated at a window-side table, reportedly enjoying cocktails and sharing a few plates.

The dinner took place at Le Violon, one of Montreal's hottest new spots. Located on rue Marquette, the upscale eatery was recently named the best new restaurant in Canada, according to Canada's 100 Best.

TMZ reports that the chef personally welcomed Perry and Trudeau, who even stepped into the kitchen before leaving to thank the staff.

MTL Blog later obtained the following video of the pair chatting while seated at a corner table.

While the nature of the outing remains unclear, both are recently single. Perry, who recently split from actor Orlando Bloom, is in town for her Bell Centre concert on July 30.

Meanwhile, Trudeau, who's been out of the spotlight since stepping down as PM in March, was last seen vacationing in the Swiss Alps with his son Xavier.

Whether it was just a friendly bite or something more, time will tell. Though we wouldn't be too surprised if a familiar face shows up at the Bell Centre on Wednesday night.
