Comedian Matteo Lane lit up the stage in Montreal with love, laughter and a little shade

Matteo Lane took the L'Olympia stage by storm Saturday night on his Al Dente tour where the Chicago-born comic left the crowd in a constant fit of laughter.

Lane performed the first two of his four shows in Montreal's Village with none other than local icon Tranna Wintour and the hilarious Tom Hearn — a Canadian duo that could slay the house down boots anytime, anywhere.

The night was nothing short of funny and festive, and that's not just because Lane dedicated the first 10 minutes of his set to the Queen herself, Mariah Carey but there was not a single knee that wasn't slapped during the 90-minute spectacle.

With talk of Cher, Madonna, Céline and even Taylor Swift (a moment of silence for the Swifties in last night's audience), Lane's show was the perfect mixture of cultural tales and queer chronicles and the crowd couldn't get enough.

While I can go on about the shadiest moments, the most hysterical anecdotes and stories of Lane's travels that had me in stitches, it was the comic's love (and subtle shade) for Montreal that made the night so special.

Despite referring to Montreal as the "Cleveland" of Canada, a joke Lane notoriously makes about the city, he gave his stamp of approval for our poutine, bagels and of course, French language.

Following his first go at the Juste Pour Rire festival in 2013, Lane has visited and performed in Montreal countless times, a city he pronounces perfectly en français, by the way.

For those who missed out on Lane's impeccable crowd work, on-point delivery and down-to-earth-diva persona, the comic is set to perform two more shows tonight — March 24 at L'Olympia on rue Sainte-Catherin E., with Wintour and Hearn returning as the opening acts.

The Al Dente tour will continue in Buffalo, and Columbus and concludes in Nashville on April 17 before Lane jet sets off to Europe for shows in Manchester, Dublin, Rome and more.

À la prochaine, Matteo.
