This Montreal orchestra is whipping up an Indiana Jones summer concert

Montreal's summer concert lineup is nothing short of a musical pop culture marathon. Between a sci-fi soundtrack and anime anthems, the city is digging into the music behind everyone's favourite archaeologist, Indiana Jones.

The upcoming film concert with a live orchestral music, courtesy of the Orchestre à Vents de Musiques de Films (OVMF), will have seventy musicians and forty singers to take you from the snake-infested pits of Peru to the sacred halls of the Grail temple, all without leaving your seat.

The OVMF is primed to unleash the epic soundscape inspired by John Williams' iconic score for Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, a soundtrack that once jousted with Vangelis' Chariots of Fire for an Academy Award.

Williams, known for his knack for crafting music that's as theatrical as it is excessive, spent weeks fine-tuning the now legendary "Raiders March." The film's theme song has since become synonymous with heroism and daring escapes.

For the romantic theme, he took cues from the 1942 drama Now, Voyager, blending it with humour and lighter moments. Darker, orchestral pieces symbolize the Nazi antagonists, using music to signify militaristic evil, while the Ark of the Covenant is represented through a mix of chorus and orchestra, adding a biblical tone to the mix.

The Montreal show is scheduled to take place on July 15, 7:30 p.m. at Salle Marguerite-Bourgeoys in Ahuntsic-Cartierville. It's a rare opportunity to experience the magic of one of film's most beloved scores performed live.

Those quick enough to book their tickets by April 7 will receive a free digital album of the concert's recording. Seats can be booked online and cost $44 for adults, with the venue located just a stone's throw from Sauvé metro.

And for those worried about the dangers that lurk around ancient artifacts, fear not. The organizers have assured that all curses have been lifted and no giant boulders will be rolling down the aisles — though they suggest keeping an eye on the balcony, just in case.
