Nowadays, it takes some serious hunting (and maybe a bit of compromise) to find an apartment for rent in Montreal for under $1,000 a month.

Look away from some of the most gentrified areas and you'll spot some pretty good apartment deals.

For the price of a downtown basement studio, you can get a three-bedroom apartment in Lachine.

And if you're willing to leave behind your roommates in the Plateau, you could snag an equally-charming but twice-as-large apartment in NDG and have it all to yourself.
