Thousands of Montrealers in Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dâme-de-Grace, Hampstead, Côte Saint-Luc and Montreal-West experienced mass Hydro-Québec power outages early in the day on October 29 — not an ideal scenario for those currently working from home.

Hydro-Québec's power outages webpage showed 65,864 customers in the city who had lost their electricity as of noon.

A tweet from Hydro-Québec explained that a "#breakdown at Hampstead Station" was causing the issue.

However, the number of outages was reduced to 6,862 as of 1:20 p.m, with most Montrealers in the west end regaining power by the afternoon.

In another tweet, Hydro-Québec said, "the failure was caused by the opening of the circuit breakers during the commissioning of new equipment in the substation."

The Quebec region of Estrie also experienced power outages on October 29, with 1,736 Quebecers affected.

As of 12:30 p.m. today, 5,430 Quebecers were without power.

The remaining Montrealers that are currently without power should have their service restored between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today, according to Hydro-Québec.

You can visit Hydro-Québec's website for a full list of Quebec power outages.
