Quebecers Should Report 'Major' Public Health Violations To Police, Guilbault Said

On Wednesday, Deputy Premier and Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault said that it's important for residents to report major public health rule violations in Quebec to police so that police can witness these events firsthand.

Her request came after a report from the Journal de Montréal captured alleged infractions, including dancing, alcohol service after midnight, and failure to wear masks, at a restaurant in Laval.

If you witness an infraction in a bar, in a restaurant, in a mall, anywhere, you have to call the police as soon as possible.

In a press conference on September 22, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé said he was "annoyed" by the violations and called them "totally unacceptable."

"This is not the kind of behaviour that we expect from Quebecers in a crisis situation where we are at war with a virus," he said.

Dubé told reporters that a "reprehensible" violation should be reported to the police immediately.

"Then we'll surely find a way to catch these people at fault," he said later on.

Guilbault echoed Minister Dubé's words.

"This is very important," she said.

"Whoever you are, if you witness an infraction in a bar, in a restaurant, in a mall, anywhere, you have to call the police as soon as possible," so that they can witness the event and issue tickets as necessary.

However, Guilbault made clear this should only apply to "major" infractions, so as not to fall into the realm of "paranoia."
