Montreal Is Under 'Yellow Pre-Alert' As COVID-19 Cases Increase Across Quebec

Due to recent increases in new COVID-19 cases, the Quebec government has put Montreal under "yellow pre-alert" according to its Regional Alert and Response System

The Bas-Saint-Laurent, Chaudière-Appalaches, and Montérégie regions are also now in yellow alert.

They join the Capitale-Nationale, Outaouais, Laval, and Estrie regions, which have been categorized as yellow since September 5.

The number of positive cases is growing every week.

Premier François Legault

At a press conference Tuesday, Premier Legault and his colleagues at the health ministry once again reiterated the need for Quebecers to respect the rules and to stop having parties and barbeques.

The Regional Alert and Response System has four levels of alert: green, yellow, orange, and red.

The system is meant to track the risk for regional community transmission and new COVID-19 cases.

"I'm very worried [about] what's happening," said Legault. "If the virus continues to spread, people will be hospitalized, some people will die."
