Montreal Police Borrowed An SQ Helicopter & Patrolled Montreal Hot Spots Friday Night

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) borrowed a helicopter from the provincial police, aka Sûreté du Québec (SQ), and used it to hover over city hot spots on Friday night for "increased visibility" during the post-curfew deconfinement period.
SPVM spokesperson, Raphaël Bergeron, confirmed to MTL Blog that this is why the SQ helicopter flew over specific areas that have drawn crowds lately, including downtown and Old Montreal.

On May 31, after the Habs won their first playoff series, Montrealers packed the streets near the Bell Centre to celebrate. The Old Port enforced a midnight curfew after gatherings over the weekend led to crowd surfing — and even serious injuries from a gunshot and stabbing.
Montrealers reacted to the helicopter on social media and reported seeing it flying low over the Plateau-Mont-Royal, Jeanne-Mance Park and La Fontaine Park.
"I'm loving the Montreal cops logic of flying helicopters at low altitude to 'survey parks' making infinitely more noise and bothering everyone way more than a couple of drunk teens at the park," tweeted Montreal artist Pier-Olivier Desbiens.
Bergeron said the SQ helicopter will continue to be available to them for the rest of the weekend "if it's needed."
