Most of us know the basics of Quebec's next stage of lockdown: It's set to be in effect from January 9 to February 8 and includes a province-wide curfew every day from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
However, the details and specifics can be confusing.
We answered the questions in our comments and DMs about all the new rules and requirements to help you get some clarity on the next four weeks of life in Quebec.
As always, officials say the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19 are to stay home whenever you can, wear a mask, wash your hands, stay 2 metres away from others and respect rules on gathering.
Can I go for a walk with someone during the day?
Not if they live at a different address.
According to the Quebec government, sports activities with people who don't live in your household are prohibited until February 8.
However, you can go for walks alone — or with members of your household bubble — between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.
What about people living alone? Can they have a guest?
Yes. If you live alone, you can still have one visitor. But keep in mind it must always be the same person and curfew hours apply.
The government says Quebecers can continue to receive visits from one informal caregiver, individuals offering services or support and labourers for planned work, such as plumbers or housekeepers.
If I have a night shift, can I go to work during the curfew?
Yes, if you're an essential worker.
You should carry documentation or proof with you (your employer can provide this) in case you get stopped by police.
Are we allowed to see significant others?
Not unless you live together or one of you lives alone (see above for details on Quebecers living alone).
Private gatherings — both indoors and outdoors — between members of different households are currently prohibited in Quebec.
The government does say that two spouses who do not live in the same region can see each other outside of curfew hours, but "until February8, they cannot be accompanied by their children."
Can we still see friends outside before the curfew?
Nope. Unless you consider the person or people you live with your friend(s).
All gatherings between members of different households are prohibited in Quebec right now.
You can only visit an individual living alone, so long as they do not receive any other people during the month-long lockdown.
Outings between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. are limited to people living in the same household.
Can we walk our dogs during the curfew?
Yes, but you must stay within one kilometre of your residence.
What about public transportation during curfew hours?
In Montreal, the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) will remain fully accessible, even during curfew hours.
In Greater Montreal, exo says it "already adjusted according to the pandemic, [and] no major changes are expected at this time."
However, you must have a valid reason for travelling if you plan to take public transit between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Can food delivery drivers work?
Yes. In fact, delivery is the only way restaurants can sell food during curfew hours.
Will universities be closed?
Partially.
While universities are hosting most courses online for the winter 2021 semester, in-person education is allowed if it's essential for a student to learn the material. For example, research in a lab.
Libraries are open, but only the circulation desk and individual workspaces. On-campus psychological support services will also remain available.
Generally speaking, the curfew is being observed on university campuses. But students and staff with valid reasons to be on campus have been deemed exceptions by the government, so they can be on campus during curfew — as well as travel back and forth — with proper documentation.
I am returning to Quebec by plane after curfew hours. What do I do?
You're considered an exception to the curfew rules, but make sure you keep your plane ticket with you as evidence.
Anyone returning from a stay outside Canada must self-isolate or quarantine for 14 days. When you arrive, go directly to your home or accommodations and begin the process.

How is this going to affect 24-hour services?
Only essential businesses and services deemed exceptions to the curfew will be operating between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. This includes businesses and services that are normally open 24 hours.
Restaurants that are open 24 hours will only be offering delivery during curfew hours.
Is Tim Hortons an essential service?
Yup! If you can't live without your daily Double Double, you can get one between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Alternatively, you can order your Tims through food delivery apps, which would be permitted at any time.
Are you allowed to see a person you've never met?
No, and you should only participate in virtual dating if you absolutely have to meet the love of your life during a lockdown.
