The SPVM Put Out A Statement About Derek Chauvin's Guilty Verdict

The morning after former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on three counts for the murder of George Floyd, Montreal's SPVM released a statement on Twitter about the verdict.
In the two-sentence statement that didn't mention anyone's name, the SPVM said "the images surrounding the May 25, 2020 intervention in the United States moved us all."

"The legal process has taken its course, the jury has made its verdict known, we hope that the victim's family and the community will find solace in it," it concluded.
The verdict was met with relief across the world — as well as renewed calls for justice system reform and plans to address systemic anti-Black racism.*
Instances involving the use of force by Montreal police officers against Montrealers of colour have repeatedly drawn widespread criticism.
