With the temperatures rapidly dropping below zero in Montreal, the STM and the Old Brewery Mission have teamed up and figured out a solution to help homeless Montrealers get around town. Dubbed the "Solidaribus," the free-to-use bus shuttle service "will allow homeless people to benefit from increased shuttle service to emergency and other shelters, including the overflow unit located at Hôtel Place Dupuis," according to the STM.

The Solidaribus will run from 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. and pick up anyone who needs to access a shelter, emergency services, or simply a place to warm up for a few hours.

The bus will facilitate the safe travel of some one hundred people each night who need a roof over their head.

"The aim of this initiative is to promote harmonious co-existence among everyone who uses the Montréal métro system, as well as a climate of safety and social balance," said Philippe Schnobb, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STM.

Mayor Valérie Plante added that the initiative aims to offer "harmonious social co-existence" drawn from "the organizational strengths of partners engaged in the initiative, which aligns with the spirit of the winter measures that the City of Montréal and the health network are rolling out."

The STM states that "homeless people can count on shuttle bus service for transportation to shelters, overflow units and warming stations located in various boroughs."

The bus will be on the streets as of November 30, 2020, and will patrol downtown Montreal seven days a week.
