The proposal would integrate REM fare with metro fare!

The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) has unveiled a proposal to "simplify and integrate" Montreal-area transit fares. It's now asking for the public's feedback.

In a press release, the ARTM says the project "will make it possible to move from 17 fare schedules to a single metropolitan schedule and from more than 700 transit fares to around 100."

At the core of the project is a proposal to create four fare zones in the Montreal area: the agglomeration of Montreal (zone one, green); Laval and the agglomeration of Longueuil (zone two, purple); communities on the North and South Shores (zone three, orange); and a collection of communities outside of the ARTM's territory (zone four, blue).

The ARTM is also proposing an "all mode" ticket, which would allow transit users to access — you guessed it — all modes of transit, including bus, metro, and the REM (!), within their zones of choice.

The "all modes" pass would cost:

  • $90/month for zone one;

  • $144/month for travel between zones one and two;

  • $176/month for travel between zones one, two, and three;

  • and $245/month for travel between zones one, two, three, and four.

The public is invited to offer feedback on the plan online.
