Montreal's Chinatown Is Facing More Vandalism & Mayor Plante Says It Is 'Unacceptable'
Montreal's Chinatown neighbourhood has recently faced more vandalism and break-ins.
The community faced similar acts at the beginning of the pandemic, including Two Buddhist temples and statues being vandalized in early March, which the SPVM deemed "hate crimes."
Chinatown has been struggling with the lack of tourists and the economic impact of the pandemic.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante took to Twitter to show her support for the community and to tell the city that she finds the vandalism "unacceptable."
The mayor posted a video in French, as well as two series of messages, in both French and English.
"The acts of vandalism against businesses in Chinatown are absolutely unacceptable and go against our values. An investigation is underway and police presence will be increased," she tweeted.
"I am wholeheartedly with the Chinese community of Montreal and the merchants. Together we will continue to fight racism and discrimination and support our local businesses."
"I know that all Montrealers join me in saying that vandalism of any form in our community is unacceptable."
