As Quebecers quietly nurse their Fête nationale hangovers, the rest of Canada is preparing to loudly enjoy their own national holiday, Canada Day on July 1, 2023.

This year, that esteemed date falls on a Saturday, giving Canadians a nice long weekend to celebrate whatever it is Canadians love about this country.

July 1 is fast approaching, and while that means Canada Day festivities for most of the country — it's also officially unofficial moving day here in la belle province.

Although moving is a hassle to begin with, it seems likely Montreal weather will make things a smidge harder for you this upcoming Friday — which is perhaps consistent with the less-than-agreeable forecasts for all of July.

Police will be paying closer attention to the roads over the next two weekends. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says its officers will be out on roads and highways to catch travellers who are speeding or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Quebec police force says speed and impaired driving "remain the main causes of fatal collisions" in the province.

Last year, authorities recorded nine fatal crashes during the Saint-Jean and Canada Day weekends.
