Montreal has entered the "alert mode" of its flooding response plan (Plan particulier d’intervention) as water levels rise west of the island. In a Sunday, April 16, statement, officials said they expect flows to increase even more between April 17 and 18.

Officials are warning drivers to, "if possible," stay away from some areas ahead of what Mobilité Montréal describes as "major traffic restrictions" in the Montreal area this weekend, October 21 to 24.

That chill in the air isn't an early sign of the approaching autumn, that's just the first hint of a cooling Montreal real estate market — sort of, maybe (*fingers crossed*). Royal LePage has released its quarterly House Price Survey and forecast, projecting more price increases but noting a "slowdown" in sales. The company also offered anecdotal evidence that Bill 96 has become a factor in some buyers' plans — at least, unsurprisingly, in the old anglo citadel that is the Montreal West Island.

Bank of Canada interest rate hikes, local Royal LePage broker Marc Lefrançois said in a release, have led buyers to "seriously reassess their financial capacity" and "reduced their enthusiasm and slowed down demand for properties in June."

A flashy new Simons just opened at the CF Fairview Pointe Claire shopping centre in the Montreal West Island. The 91,000-square-foot location — with 74,000 square feet of retail space — is the department store's 16th in Canada overall and 10th in Quebec.

The Pointe-Claire Simons is architecturally distinct, featuring a striking two-storey green-tiled entrance, as well as artwork throughout the store. What the company describes as a "monumental" collection of cloud sculptures by artist Brendan Tang hangs in one of the lobbies.

Some Pointe-Clarie residents are raising hell after a shoot for a Disney movie in Montreal's West Island ravaged a local green space. The Montreal Gazette was the first to report this story.

In a March 17 Facebook post, Pointe-Claire City Councillor Erin Tedford said calls and emails have been pouring into her office concerning the incident in which production for the upcoming movie The Naughty Nine poured gravel over a grassy common area in an attempt to make it easier for trucks to access the site.
