Montreal has entered the "alert mode" of its flooding response plan (Plan particulier d’intervention) as water levels rise west of the island. In a Sunday, April 16, statement, officials said they expect flows to increase even more between April 17 and 18.

"Montreal is ready to make every effort to prepare for possible flooding," Alain Vaillancourt, Montreal executive committee member responsible for public security, said in the statement. "Our teams are ready to deploy the human, material and financial resources necessary to deal with any flooding."

The Montreal West Island has a new fried chicken joint. Madame Poulet has opened a restaurant in Pointe-Claire, its first on Montreal Island. Its two other locations are in Laval and Blainville on the North Shore.

The now-chain launched in 2020 with a mission to "bring comfort and joy" to customers and foster a "sense of community," its website states.

Some Pointe-Clarie residents are raising hell after a shoot for a Disney movie in Montreal's West Island ravaged a local green space. The Montreal Gazette was the first to report this story.

In a March 17 Facebook post, Pointe-Claire City Councillor Erin Tedford said calls and emails have been pouring into her office concerning the incident in which production for the upcoming movie The Naughty Nine poured gravel over a grassy common area in an attempt to make it easier for trucks to access the site.

A 16-year-old died on Thursday, February 10, after sustaining what Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils described as an injury by a sharp object in Pointe-Claire on Tuesday afternoon.

The SPVM major crimes unit has taken over the investigation. Chèvrefils said the teen died as a result of his injuries but an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
