Montreal weather is about to get real wet, real fast.
Environment Canada issued special weather statement for the Greater Montreal Area on July 9 at 1:50 p.m. as up to 50 millimetres of rain is expected to touchdown within the next 48 hours.
"Significant rainfall is possible for Wednesday and Thursday," EnviroCan said. The rainfall is expected to begin Tuesday evening and will reach peak levels starting Wednesday afternoon.
According to the federal weather agency, the wet weather is due to "remnants of tropical storm Beryl," which will affect most of Southern Quebec. "Rainfall amounts between 30 and 50 millimetres are expected as well as moderate winds."
While rain is certainly nothing new for Montreal, such heavy amounts of rain can cause a slew of problems across the city including flash flooding and ponding on roads, Environment Canada warns.
Due to potential flooding, rush hour traffic could be impacted in urban areas.
Although Montreal and its surrounding areas are set to receive up to 50 mm of rain, other areas of Quebec could get it twice as bad. Per The Weather Network, the Eastern Townships will be picking up between 75 to 100 millimetres of rain.
Note that the EnviroCan special weather statement also applies to Laval, Longueuil, and Châteauguay.
Despite a rocky (and rainy) next two days, Montrealers will be able to soak up the sun this weekend.
The Weather Network is calling for a high of 28 degrees Celsius, with a feels like factor of 34 on Saturday, and a high of 29 degrees C on Sunday.
